What’s The Best Blender On The Market Today?
With so many blenders on the market today it’s become extremely difficult to find the right model for you. Prices range from around £15 to well over £1,000 but is it really worth spending so much? In this article we look into the most popular brands and models and break down the pros and cons of each. By the end of the article you should be able to pick the one that suits you the best.
Should you go classic or smoothie style?
This is a question that you should seriously consider before making a purchase as it could save you a lot of time and money. Classic style blenders are generally more powerful, last longer and can cope with much tougher blending tasks, however they do tend to be more expensive. On the other hand smoothie blenders are generally more affordable but aren’t usually up to the task of blending harder ingredients. One major plus point is that they usually come with a built in drinks bottle so it’s really easy to make a quick smoothie or shake with little to no mess.
With such a big difference between classic and smoothie styles, we’ve put together two lists so you can choose what’s relevant to your needs.
Our top 5 classic style blenders
#5 Philips HR2020/50 400 Watt Jug Blender – 1.75 Litre
First up is a super affordable option from Phillips. The HR2020/50 is the cheapest classic style blender on the list and is understandably one of the top sellers on the market today. If your looking for a basic compact option then this might be worth a look. It features two speed settings, a pulse function and a rather large 1.75 litre plastic jug. This can also be inverted for compact storage when not in use, as pictured above.
Possible downsides relate to power and reliability. It’s by no means a workhorse but it can definitely cope with hard foods, however you may encounter problems with heavy prolonged use. It’s also quite a noisy machine which may be a problem for some. Overall though it’s a great affordable option that retails at just £40, however you can normally pick one up for around £29.99 on Amazon.
#4 Magimix 11610 1.8 Litre Blender
At number 4 we’ve got an simple, easy to use model from Magimix. The 11610 is a fantastic all rounder that actually boasts a great deal of features despite its simple design. One major advantage it has over the Phillips is a larger 1.8 litre glass jug. These are designed for heavier use and will not overheat in the way plastic can, although the manufacturer doesn’t recommend running the motor for more than 60 seconds at a time.
It’s pretty versatile and features a number of pre-set programmes, these include:
Overall, it’s a fantastic all rounder and will be ideal for most people. Some minor niggles would be the limited running time and the fact that some users have mentioned that the blades don’t produce a super-fine blend like some of the more expensive options. It’s priced at around £159.99 on Amazon and for that you can’t really go wrong.
#3 Blendtec Total Blender 2.8 Litre 1560 Watts
Blendtec are arguably the most recognised consumer blender brand on the market today. This is largely due to their fantastic youtube series “Will it blend?” in which they test lots of different household objects to see if their machine can cope. Here’s one of their most popular videos where they actually throw in 50 marbles! Enjoy!
As you can see they’re quite a powerful machine, this coupled with their 2.8 litre capacity makes them a very versatile unit. One word of caution would be that some users complain about seals leaking over time so it may not be the best choice for commercial applications where it would need to be in constant use. The recommended retail price is £575 but you can sometimes pick one up for under £500 on Amazon.
#2 Hamilton Beach Tournant HBF600-UK Commercial Food Blender
Hamilton Beach specialise in commercial food equipment so naturally the HBF600-UK is a very special machine indeed. If you’re looking to spend big money and get pretty much every feature available then this is the blender for you.
It features a special jug design that ensures everything is blended evenly, numerous safety features and even a temperature gauge that lets you continuously blend without having to worry about damaging the motor.
As you’d imagine all this doesn’t come cheap, it retails at a hefty £1,150 but you can sometimes pick one up for around £1000 on Amazon. If you want the best and plan on doing some serious blending then you can’t really go wrong with this. If it was a bit cheaper it would easily make the number one spot.
#1 Vitamix Professional Series 750 Blender
At number one is the Vitamix professional series 750. Vitamix is widely regarded as the benchmark brand when it comes to blenders, they’re known for being extremely reliable and make a great investment for anyone who’s serious about cooking. They have the ability to chop, cream, blend, heat, grind and churn easily with their simple settings knob and will last for many years.
This particular model is a commercial grade unit so you can be sure that it will stand up to almost any task you can throw at it. It doesn’t the same safety features that the Hamilton Beach has but this is reflected in the price, and to be honest unless you’re planning on some serious commercial use you’re unlikely to need them.
Each model comes with an impressive 7 year warranty; also users have commented on how helpful their support team has been. All this adds up to make one great investment, so for around £849.99 on amazon it’s definitely worth the money.
We’ve got 5 great blenders here and they all have their pros and cons; as always you should choose the one that best suits your situation and needs – if price is an issue go with the Phillips, if it’s not and you want something special then the Hamilton Beach and Vitamix are great options. However, if you’re just looking for a simple affordable blender and don’t plan on heavy commercial use then we’d always recommend the Magimix, it’s well priced and will easily be suitable for most households.
Now lets talk about smoothies!
Our top 5 smoothie style blenders
#5 Kenwood 3-in-1 350 Watt Blender with Smoothie to Go – 1 Litre
To start us off we’ve got the Kenwood 3 in 1 blender, it’s extremely versatile and should suit most people’s needs. From first appearances it looks like it should be mixed in with the classic blenders, however this is sadly not the case. Although it does come with a classic style jug, it’s not really powerful enough to cope with any serious blending, it’s still great for smoothies though!
It comes with 3 different attachments – the classic jug, the smoothie bottle and the small grinder. The small grinder is perfect for chopping up coffee beans and nuts while the smoothie bottle… well you guessed it! It’s removable so you can blend fruit and veg directly in the bottle before taking with you to the gym, it’s a great idea that really cuts down on mess. The set retails at £39.99 but you can usually pick one up for around £30 on Amazon.
#4 Duronic BL1200 1.8 Litre 1200 Watt Blender
Next up is the BL1200 from Duronic, a classic style blender that’s perfect for making smoothies. It doesn’t come with a portable bottle but it makes up for it with it’s ice crushing ability and easy set up.
The BL1200 boasts an impressive 1200 Watts which is actually higher than some of our classic style blenders! Despite this it’s mainly set up for making smoothies. It features 3 simple settings – Smoothie, IceCrush and Auto-Clean. With auto-clean you simply fill it up with warm soapy water and let it do the work, pretty easy right?
It’s important to consider the cons though, with such a powerful motor you’ve really got to keep an eye on the unit when switching it on or when using the auto-clean function as it can jump about quite a lot. So make sure you’re careful and you should be fine. It’s also important to note that the absence of a portable bottle might be a problem for some people. Overall though it’s a great blender that retails for around £100, however you can sometimes pick one up for as little as £49.99 on Amazon so make sure you take a look.
#3 Morphy Richards 48415 Easy Blend
The easy blend from Morphy Richards is a steal at just £24.99. It comes with 2 removable bottles and lids and should fit nicely into most kitchen cupboards. It’s great for anyone who wants to make a quick smoothie, protein shake or even a cocktail but it isn’t really up to any serious blending. This is due to its small 300 Watt motor. It’s strong enough to blend ice but any prolonged heavy use may cause overheating.
If you’re looking for a cheap basic smoothie maker then you can’t really go wrong with this one.
#2 Breville Blend-Active Personal Blender
The Breville Blend-Active is the best selling smoothie style blender on the market today and it’s not surprising when you consider what it has to offer. You can normally pick one up for around £22 on Amazon but they retail at around £30. They are very similar to the Morphy Richards but are generally considered much more reliable. Like the Morphy Richards you get 2 removable sports bottles in the box, both of which are dishwasher safe so they are an absolute breeze to clean.
The main downside to this model is the small 300 Watt motor, it’s not the most impressive power unit in the world but for £22 does it really matter?
#1 The Nutribullet 8-Piece Set
Top of the list is the fantastic Nutribullet, it’s similar to an everyday smoothie maker but boasts an impressive 600 Watt motor. It’s basically a Breville Blend-Active on steroids.
It’s easy to use, simple to clean and very reliable, there’s not too much more to say to be honest! One small con may be that you don’t get a protein shake style bottle included in the box so whatever you make will have to be drank at home or transferred to another container. It’s more expensive than the Breville at £117.93 but you can usually pick one up on Amazon for around £80. It comes with all the extras you can see in the image above which makes it excellent value for money.
When it comes to smoothie makes you don’t need to spend much money to get great results. If you’re on a budget you can’t go too far wrong with the Breville; if you want that extra bit of power and reliability it’s definitely worth spending a little extra on the Nutribullet.
We’ve listed 10 great blenders here which should suit all uses and budgets, so have a good read and make sure you choose the one that makes sense for you.
